How is 1 Marla calculated?

Marla does not have one universal size. Punjab revenue records (Patwari/Fard, Jamabandi) and LDA use 1 Marla = 272.25 sq ft. DHA (all cities), Bahria Town, CDA Islamabad and most private housing societies use 1 Marla = 225 sq ft. Some KP satellite towns use 1 Marla = 250 sq ft. Always check your property documents to confirm which standard applies before making a financial decision.

1 Kanal always equals 20 Marla, but its size in square feet depends on the Marla standard used: 5,445 sq ft at the 272.25 standard, 5,000 sq ft at the 250 standard, and 4,500 sq ft at the 225 standard used by DHA and Bahria Town. How is an irregular land plot's area calculated?

Real plots are rarely perfect rectangles. The reliable method is diagonal triangulation: measure all four sides plus one diagonal, which splits the plot into two triangles. Each triangle's area is exact once solved with Heron's formula, A = √(s(s−a)(s−b)(s−c)), where s is the semi-perimeter. Adding the two triangle areas gives the exact plot area — side lengths alone are not enough, because the same four sides can enclose different areas depending on the corner angles.

Is Bigha a fixed unit?

No — Bigha varies by region, from roughly 1,500 to 27,000 sq ft depending on the state or district. The Bigha conversion in this calculator is a single labeled reference value for estimation only.
